Would you like to add festive Christmas decor in the bedroom and need some inspo on how to do so? Here are some ideas for you!
I love waking up in the morning and seeing subtle reminders that it is the holiday season!
How about you?
It can be such a festive time of year and knowing that the first and last thing I am going to see in the mornings and nights of the season is a twinkly TREE just makes me so happy!
But I actually just started putting up a tree in my bedroom three years ago.
So before the bedroom tree, my festive decor in the bedroom consisted of bedding, pillows, books, seasonal floral arrangements, and of course little decorative items 🎄.

Festive Christmas Decor in the Bedroom
Put a Tree in your Bedroom
I just added a small tree to our main bedroom three years ago.
And funny thing is – the only reason why I did so was because we were out of space for ornaments on our large family tree in the living room ;).
You see – our tree is filled with ornaments from where we have been as a family.
And I guess we have been a lot of places!!
So it worked out that when my husband and I started traveling without the kids as our new empty nest chapter started – getting a new smaller tree for our bedroom was perfect!!
Now we have a tree that is only our couples travel ornaments ;)!
But that isn’t to say that is what YOU need to do with your bedroom tree!!!
Heck – I have had the tree up for weeks now with no ornaments and tbh – it’s the twinkle lights before I close my eyes at night and as soon as I wake up in the morning that have me anyway ;).
When my kids were little, they each had a tabletop tree on their bedstands.
In fact – for a few years, my oldest would ask us to get her a little 3 foot tree from the tree farm for her room!
I raised them well 😂👍🏻.
This is the 7.5 foot Alpine Balsam Fir Tree from Balsam Hill…
Change Out the Pillows
This is one of the EASIEST ways to change up your bedroom for any season!!
But of course – Christmas pillows are the most fun change of all!
I have changed the Euro shams and accent pillows on every bed in our house.
In fact – every bed in my house used to have a complete set of Christmas bedding (especially when the kids were younger!).
I just couldn’t resist those cute Pottery Barn Kids Christmas quilts ;).
But now I have made my life a whole lot easier and just change the pillows 🤪.
Add a Throw
As long as you are changing the pillow covers – might as well throw a festive blanket on the bed too!
And boy are there always cute ones to use!
I want to add new ones – EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. 😂
Use Fake Wrapped Presents in a Basket
Looking for the cheapest decor of all to add to a space???
It’s wrapped empty boxes!!
I seriously have them EVERYWHERE in my house!
Under all three trees.
In baskets.
In wood boxes.
On shelves.
Okay – you probably get the point!
SOOO EASY!!
Place Sentimental Items Around the Space
Almost twenty years ago, I purchased the book The Night Before Christmas for each of my children.
I also still have the same book that my mom and dad gave me for Christmas when I was six years old :).
While I used to keep a huge basket of Christmas books in the playroom for the kids to read, clearly those days are over.
I have kept my favorites and for now use them in the bedrooms as decor :).
Until I get a grandchild and am reading them to littles again that is ❤️.
About five years ago, my youngest daughter insisted she have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree in her room.
And now that she is in college, this tree is up and waiting for her to come and appreciate it just like the Peanuts gang does ;).
I also have made a few Christmas decor purchases on the Christmas market trips I have taken in the last few years.
I bring them out for the holiday and display them in this cabinet in my bedroom that I made a few changes to last year!
I.E. – I added the linen curtains to the bottom shelves so that I can hide unsightly items on the shelves in the cabinet, painted the back of the cabinet white, and added the handles ;).
Hang Old Christmas Cards
This one isn’t technically IN any of our bedrooms.
But is in the hallway leading to my kids’ bedrooms ;).
I had this shiplap frame built about three years ago and use it for all sorts of fun family memorabilia!
I have kept a copy of every Christmas card I have sent since I got married but only hang the cards from 2001 on since that was when our family was completed with our youngest baby ;).
Use Faux Flowers
I have a lot of favorites when it comes to holiday faux flowers!
But evergreen stems, white berry stems, flocked lambs ear, and poinsettias are at the top of my list ;).
If you are a regular here – you know I have been spending the last two years lightening up my house.
This includes my holiday decor.
Which means I am using a lot more whites and golds in my seasonal decor than I ever have before!
Don’t get me wrong – I still love the pop of red around the house during Christmas time but I have changed a decent amount out to be more neutral and calming…
These white poinsettias are new to me this year and my bedroom was the perfect place for them!
Hang a Wreath Above the Bed
Even if you have a piece of art hanging above your bed – a wreath can be added above it!
I mean – I personally have not done that but I have plenty of blogger/IG friends that do it and it looks so fun!
I got this wreath last year from Target (and believe it or not it was there this year too – although as I am writing this – it is only available for pickup in your local store {if it’s even there 😬}).
When we redid our bedroom (read that post here btw!) – I knew a wreath would be the perfect holiday touch for our bedroom.
Here are a few other options that are still available for shipping as of now:
I hope this post was inspirational in your quest to add festive Christmas decor in the bedroom :).
