Looking for simple ideas for a cozy fall family room? You are in the right place! I cannot wait for our hot California weather to disappear so that I can snuggle up with a warm fall blankie on the couch… soon I hope!!
This is the time of year when it seems all of us are craving temperatures that make it easy to cozy up on our couches with a nice fire roaring in our fireplaces.
San Diego hasn’t had anything like that YET.
But we are all hoping that by the end of October our nights will at least make a light jacket necessary when outside :).
That doesn’t mean that my house isn’t cozy-fied and ready for snuggling on the couch with a fall throw though!
Speaking of which – anyone got any favorite shows they are binge watching? Please please leave your favorites in the comments below – I am in the market for a new bingeworthy show!
Anyway – since fall is all about cozy, warm, welcoming – I am sharing a fall decorated space in my home that I don’t actually think I have focused on for quite a while here on the blog. And yet, by name alone – it is one of the most important rooms in a home!
And it’s the family room of course! The place the whole family gathers to talk, play games, watch tv – thus the name ;).
This post is once again part of a group of bloggers sharing a space in their fall decorated homes with you in hopes you will get some ideas to make your own home cozy and welcoming.
I was at a Book Launch party for a friend of mine the other day and said the phrase “Blog Hop” to a few ladies. They all looked at me and asked what is that? So I figure I should explain when group of bloggers get together and mention each other in one post – us bloggers call that a “Blog Hop”.
We do them to benefit all of our collective readers with multiple sources for inspiration – not just our own!
So be sure to go take a peek at what the other six bloggers in this “hop” have to share with you!
And if you already know what the point of a blog hop is and are coming here from my sweet friend Robyn from Robyn’s French Nest – I hope you got a multitude of ideas and inspiration from her and are ready for some more here ;).
I honestly just LOVE Robyn’s style – someday I would love to sit on that couch with her and chat ;).
On the chance that you are new here too – I would love to introduce myself to you over on my “About Me” page so that you can learn all the fun things I like to share here in my corner of the world wide web :).
I have many passions and just love sharing as much as I can with you in hopes it helps you with your home, your relationships, and your travel bucket list!!
If you are enjoying what you are reading here – PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do two things for me:
- Say hi and introduce yourself via a comment below, a DM on Instagram, or even an email – I cannot tell you how much I love the community part of bloggers – especially with non-bloggers who sometimes stay a little quiet behind the scenes. I am always up for connecting and making a new friend :)!
- It would mean the world to me if you subscribe to my email list. And I kid you not when I say – you will not be getting daily emails from me. I am working on my consistency with it though and am hoping to gradually get better and make it to send one every couple of weeks and then maybe someday ONCE A WEEK! But again – that is a big commitment for me 😂.
Okay – now back to those simple ideas for a cozy fall family room!!!

Simple Ideas for a Cozy Fall Family Room
Lots of Fall Colored Pillows
There are some gorgeous fall pillow options out there right now!
I am trying to get better about NOT looking for more pillows when I already have so many…
However, I just recently got the tan striped 22×22 pillows on my couch and OMG. I LOVE THEM.
The quality is incredible I am not even sure if the photos are doing them justice ;).
I wish I could say that the pretty gold patterned pillows are still available but sadly they were a clearance priced find midseason last year ;0.
Nonetheless – I have linked to some other options as well as all the other pillow covers I have on my couch below.
Oh – and in case you didn’t catch that – I only buy pillow covers. I mean really – who has enough storage space to store full blown pillows for every season? Also – if that’s you – than YOU ARE ONE LUCKY SON OF A GUN!
My all time favorite inserts are these ones. I kid you not – they are AWESOME!
Like – karate chop perfect. And if you don’t know what I mean by that – by all means comment below and ask me :).
But seriously – I have spent the last three years replacing every single pillow insert in my home (just ask Goodwill about all the old pillow inserts they keep getting from me 😂).
I even have these inserts on all my beds! Now do you believe me that I love them???
A Fall Oriented Mantel
As I mentioned in my fall decor post from last week showing my entryway and living room, I have two mantels in my home ;).
How I decorated the first one for fall is in the above post and the second mantel is in my family room (and is not a faux fireplace like my living room one is!).
Many of the items in the above photo are vintage finds from local stores or Etsy (love that website!).
And quite strangely, the Balsam Hill maple tree above is not available this year (so odd as it has been available for years in the past so I am not sure what that is all about…).
However, here is the link to an alternative that I recently found!
The basket can be found here (and is currently on sale!).
The long necked antique brass vases can be found online at Magnolia Market (not an affiliate link – just sharing in case you are loving them too!).
And the exact sign is no longer being sold in the Etsy store I found it on years ago but I have listed some alternatives below for you ;).
Some Fall Fun on the Coffee Table
Coffee tables are always the perfect place for seasonal decor!
I am actually currently on the hunt for a lighter looking table.
For those of you that are new here – I have been spending the last couple of years brightening up my home. And while my current family room table is still in great shape – I really just need it to be lighter.
Especially because my couch is in REALLY good shape (even though it is almost 15 years old!) – so I clearly will not be getting a new one of those anytime soon…
So I figure the easiest way to lighten up the space is with a lighter table.
I actually have considered just painting the table but honestly I am ready for a whole new material and look for that item – so be sure to stay tuned for how that plays out ;)!!
For my fall coffee table, I simply threw a bunch of fall oriented items in a large white bowl and added a candle to the space and stood back and said – that was easy! And I like the look ;).
If you have been around for a while – you may recognize the leaf bouquet that I have mentioned before.
My youngest daughter ever so carefully carried that bouquet back from Oregon back in 2014 and I STILL HAVE IT!
It is honestly one of my most treasured decor items ;).
The small wooden pumpkin is one of my favorite fall decor items. I have about six of them scattered around my house in both of the available sizes ;).
A few of the items in the bowl as well as the wooden bead strand are from my friend Sherylee’s small shop called Decor to the Door.
Other Places to Put Fall Decor
I have an old painted (by me in my current lighten and brighten stage) children’s desk instead of a side table.
The desk was a “hand me down” from the mom of my college best friend :). Well technically it was her boyfriend’s mom (later husband’s 😂). So not only does it look great in this space – it also has sentimental value ;).
We recently added Nest security items all around our house so this seemed the perfect place to put the Nest hub (with the personalized photos of course!).
We also just got the Nest doorbell and I LOOOVVEEE it – why did we wait this long for this amazing security product???
I also painted the top of the above bar cart…
Did you question me when I said I am on a lighten and brighten kick? Bet you aren’t now 😂.
The cute basket on the bottom shelf of my bar cart is from a vintage store in Springfield, Oregon (sorry about that because I know it is super cute!).
However the gold apples in the bowl on the top shelf are another one of my favorite fall decor items and can also be found all over my house ;).
The above photo is decor that I placed on a shelf of our media center.
Those apples are ANOTHER one of my favorite fall decor items that I have literally all over my home right now!
Okay – obviously the photo above is NOT my family room – but the space is too cutely decorated for fall to not share with you.
And since I titled this section of the post “other spaces to put fall decor” – technically this fits here…
Plus it’s another example of a space where I used my favorite wooden pumpkin (larger size here) AND those favorite faux apples of mine.
Vase is another Magnolia Market purchase btw :).
Cute pillow is from that store in Oregon I mentioned above and the basket is a Target find from about four years ago. I have linked some cute alternatives below for you though!
Thank you so much for joining me today in sharing my simple ideas for a cozy fall family room!
It brings me so much joy to share my own home in hopes to inspire you to make your home a safe, comfortable, and cheery place for your loved ones.
There is a lot of gathering coming up for all of us in these next few months.
And having a beautifully decorated home ready for your favorite people is such a nice way to welcome them all into your special place.
But as I have said before – the very most important item you can add to a home is THE PEOPLE! And the love and kindness they all bring into your home.
Never put pressure on yourself to have the THINGS in your home look perfect and then accidentally lose sight of what’s truly important ;).
Remember that blog hop I explained above? Well now I have to make sure you know that my friend Mansa from This is Simplicite is sharing her neutral fall home.
And you know I am all about those neutrals!
There are four more accounts in addition to the two I have already mentioned in this post to be inspired by as well – the links are all below!

Pasha – Your home looks so cozy and ready for fall. We are lucky in Illinois, it’s sweater weather during the day and fireplace weather at night. Last night I sat down with a throw and Leslie’s book by the fire. (just a little jealous that you were able to go to the party). Thank you for hosting this fun blog hop. Everyone’s homes are just gorgeous!
