A Super Easy Chocolate Chip Dessert Recipe

August 9, 2022

Looking for a super easy chocolate chip dessert recipe? You have come to the right place! With just four ingredients – you can’t go wrong with this one!!

Back in 1996, my older sister was living in Nashville, TN. And I went to visit her with my first born daughter who was about six or seven months old.

My sister has two “Irish twin” boys (i.e.- they are 17 months apart) that were 10 months old and barely two years old.

So when a neighbor of hers gave us this DELICIOUS and ridiculously easy chocolate chip dessert recipe – we literally could not get enough of it!

Strangely, sometimes I go years forgetting about how easy and tasty this recipe is.

And then I make it again.

And say to myself – my God why don’t I make this more often?? 😂

And there you have it. The backstory you didn’t need or ask for for this recipe ;).

Just to throw it out there for all of you too – did you know that Google “recommends” blog posts of ALL kinds to be over 1000 words long in order to be caught by their search engine?? Best case is 1200+ words…

So in case you are wondering why every single recipe you find online has some crazy long (ahem often dumb) backstory to it – it is because Google says we have to (as bloggers that is!).

Nonetheless – I am also joining some of my favorite bloggers today to share all of our tasty summer recipes with you! All of their recipes are linked at the bottom of this post so be sure to scroll down for even more yummy ideas!

If you are coming here from Melaine at My Sweet Savannah – did you drool at her easy pickled onions recipe? I am an onion lover so that recipe is right up my alley!

In a rush?

Ingredients You Will Need

This recipe literally needs four ingredients.

That’s right. FOUR.

Well technically five because you will need two eggs.

Ingredients for dessert

But here is your grocery list for this recipe (although odds are – you have all of them already in your house!):

  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 11.5 oz bag of either milk chocolate or semi sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 stick (8 Tbs) butter
  • 1 Box Yellow Cake Mix (I personally prefer Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix but you can use your own preference)

How to Make This Super Easy Chocolate Chip Dessert

To start, preheat your oven to 350° and lightly grease a 9 inch square baking pan or 11x7x1.5 inch baking dish.

Next, put the 8 tablespoons of butter in a microwavable container and melt in microwave. I use a glass measuring cup and cut the stick of butter into smaller pieces so that it melts faster and more evenly.

Butter in microwave

Let the butter cool for a minute or two. Then add the eggs in the same container and using a fork stir until well blended.

chocolate chip dessert batter

Pour yellow cake mix into a medium sized mixing bowl.

Then add the butter/egg mixture to the bowl and stir until well mixed. The batter will have a thick consistency to it.

Using a spatula, stir in the chocolate chips.

Bake for 30 minutes or until top is golden brown.

Cool on a cooling rack for about 30 minutes.

Once cool, using a knife, cut into squares and enjoy!

Tips for Making This Chocolate Chip Dessert Recipe

  • Be sure to let the butter cool off slightly before adding the eggs otherwise you might end up actually cooking the eggs in the hot butter.
  • Watch your baking time – it could be longer or shorter dependent on the strength of your oven. My oven cooks this recipe in about 27 minutes.
  • I cut the chocolate chip dessert into 1.5 inch squares as photographed above however this treat is easier to eat if cut into bite-sized pieces. I prefer them to be about half an inch squares that I can just pop right into my mouth ;).

My Favorite Baking Supplies

Over the years, I have made sure that my kitchen is well equipped for almost any baking desire I have.

This means – glass measuring cups, every type of baking dish, almost all the utensils for stirring and serving you can fathom.

Nonetheless – this recipe is so simple if all you have is a fork, a dish to melt butter in, a bowl to stir the ingredients in, and a dish to bake it in – you are golden :).

However, here are my personal favorites that I have in my own kitchen and stand behind 100%:
