How to Host an Extraordinary New Years Eve Party

December 8, 2022

Looking for tips on how to host an extraordinary New Years Eve party that your guests will remember all year long? Our NYE party is one of my favorites to host ;).

There is something so encouraging and magical about spending the last moments of the previous year and first moments of the new year surrounded by your favorite people.

Over the last few years this party has taken on a whole new importance to me.

My family has experienced our fair share of loss and trauma over the last few years.

So now more than ever – my focus (especially around the holidays) is to surround myself with people I love and to CELEBRATE LIFE as much as possible!!

And a New Year’s Eve party is honestly the perfect place to do those things ;).

This post is also part of a fabulous bloggers home tour group organized by my friend Marty from A Stroll Through Life.

She is the best at coordinating all almost 30 of us to inspire you with so many different Christmas home ideas.

Be sure to take a peek at what she has going on for this tour :).

And if you are coming here from Tamara at Citrine Living – hi!! I hope you enjoyed what she shared today and love what you find here at Pasha is Home!

You can read a little more about my favorite things on the About Me page of this website but long story short – I love all things decor AND travel!

Oh and I love to plan and organize all things decor and travel 😂.

So you will find all that and more here at Pasha is Home.

And I hope what you find makes you so happy that you decide to subscribe to receive the occasional email that I send (which I am trying so hard to get better at but trying is the key word there…).

As an Amazon Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases. Some of the other links on this site are also affiliate links, which means I might earn a small commission if you love something as much as I do at no additional cost to you… but I only recommend what I actually like myself!

Read the full disclosure here.

In a rush?

Have Simple Decorations

Amazon is my go to for all things NYE!

I decided last year to buy these cute light up marquee numbers and then all I have to do for the next decade is buy the last number for the upcoming year- smart right???

I also bought the light up stars that match the numbers this year and plan on putting them on the stairs above and below the numbers for our party.

The rest of my decor is pretty much foil balloons and photo prop items :).

Also – my friends have caught on to the fact that I just throw the horns into a box year after year to be reused and have politely asked me to stop doing that…

You know the whole pandemic thing probably started this way (JUST KIDDING!) – but still – I will be buying new horns this year ;).

I have also found some new fun party decor items this year that if I am super motivated – just might make their way into my home for the big night :).

Drop a DIY Ball

Aaaaannnnddd this is what makes our NYE party so unique :).

Over fifteen years ago, my creative and resourceful husband thought it would be fun to make our very own miniature ball to drop like the NY Times Square ball.

So he ordered a couple of clear punch bowls, some rope light, an extension cord, and a pulley from Amazon and Macgyvered a ball to be dropped in our living room every year we have had a party!

He bought some PVC pipe but honestly that isn’t sturdy enough so he just uses our pool skimmer pole!

It is 100% not as pretty as the Times Square ball but every single one of our guests loves it year after year.

I asked him if he could write up some step by step instructions for any of you that would want them.

And his reply was – are you kidding me? You think I know how I made this thing??

Sooooo – here are a few more pictures of the contraption in hopes you can figure out what he did if you are hoping to replicate this crazy thing ;).

But even better than the way it looks – we drop it whenever we want!

Which is usually between 9pm (you know – New York time) or maybe 10pm if we are lucky and still energized.

And yes – after the ball drop, the majority of our guests head home to bed ;0.

Note that my husband is standing at the top of our stairs slowly “dropping” the ball as we have Auld Lang Syne playing on the stereo ;).

Make it a Potluck

And this is my favorite easy tip of all!!

I mean – seriously – this makes any party so freaking easy to host!!!

In 2021, I literally had Krispy Kreme donuts delivered, made my famous fudge recipe and some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and provided non-alcoholic drinks (told my guests to bring their own alcohol!).

Of course, I cannot have a NYE party without a pretty cocktail so I made a pitcher of that to share.

But other than that – the gang provided the majority of the food ;).

I did provide all the cups, plates, napkins, and silverware (all disposable though!).

Well – that pretty much sums up my ideas for how to host an extraordinary New Year’s Eve party!

I hope you found it helpful in planning your own December 31st evening.

It is coming up QUICK – I mean really – didn’t 2022 literally just start a few days ago???

And don’t forget to go read the inspiration my friend Cindy from County Road 407 has written for you. I know you will find her ideas so helpful as well!

What fun! I love your ideas and I love the way you decorated your stairs! Now I want to throw a party!
    Cheers! – Shelley

  7. I laughed out loud that your friends told you to stop using the same horns year after year. I guess you could put them in a sealed bag with their name on them so they get the same one. Ha! Loved each idea. Especially having your own ball! I’ll ask the mister if he’s up for that. Although I already know that’s going to be a chuckle and a no. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Years.

    • I love that you caught that!!!!! I hope you convince your husband to make a ball – it seriously makes the night so fun! Especially when we drop it like 3-4 times each NYE – lol! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my friend!!
