Do you need some light and fresh summer updates in the bedroom? I recently gave all of the bedrooms in our house an airy seasonal look. And am sharing them with you today to inspire you to do the same!
If you have been following me for a while, you know that I am an empty nester with three kids. Which means the three bedrooms my kids grew up in are not used as much as they were five years ago.
Which also means – time for a refresh! And light and fresh summer updates in the bedrooms were the perfect time to do this refresh ;).
All four of the bedrooms in my house got some bedding changes this last month. Whether it was a simple coverlet addition in the main bedroom or new pillows and an extra comforter/quilt in my kids’ rooms, the changes I made have cheered up the rooms for summer ;).
I am also excited to be joining 30 lovely ladies in a fun summer home tour for this post! A big thank you to Marty from A Stroll Through Life for coordinating and including me in this inspiring group.

Summer Updates in the Bedrooms
Main Bedroom
Not a lot has changed in my main bedroom from last year to this year.
We added the grid wall almost exactly one year ago and it has completely changed the look of my bedroom to a much brighter and cheerier one. You can read my post on how we DIY’ed that project here.
But since last summer, the only things I have added is a new summer coverlet and a matte white fan. The coverlet is currently resting on top of our duvet cover because San Diego is still COLD at night. But once our evenings start warming up – I will swap the two. So that the coverlet is all we use at night but I will keep the duvet at the end of the bed for nights the coverlet isn’t warm enough ;).
I doubt there will be many of those come August though! Did you know San Diegans have dubbed our month of June – ‘June gloom’? It is totally spot on – we get more cloudy, gloomy days in May & June than any other time of the year ;0. Oh- and May is called May Grey 🤷♀️.
Sorry – I digress – back to changes to the main bedroom to refresh the room for summer!
The white fan is brand new – purchased at the end of May. And is now saying on it’s website that it is out of stock until December 2024. Which I 100% believe has got to be a typo! Because seriously? Two and a half years for a fan to be in stock????!!! What is happening??
The coverlet I have literally been eyeing for almost two years and finally took the leap to have it this summer. I think it was the tassles that drew me in and wouldn’t let me stop thinking about them 😂.
It is just the right touch for a light and fresh summer update ;).
My Son’s Bedroom
My son’s bedroom is the second largest bedroom in our house. It even has its own bathroom. Don’t get me started on how many comments and arguments we fielded over the years from our oldest daughter and family members on why my middle child got this biggest bedroom.
But in case you are now wondering why – it is because my son is sandwiched between two girls who can easily (and did) share the other bathroom on that side of the house ;). I just thought it would be weird to have my middle child (ie son) and youngest child (ie daughter) sharing a bathroom 🤪.
But back to the summer bedroom refresh with the new pretty chambray bedding WHICH I LOVE. Remember my love affair with the color blue??
The comforter pattern has caught my eye for a couple of years now and I finally decided to add it to this bedroom that is used as a guest room when my son isn’t home (which is more often than not now that he is a college graduate!).
Just this week, we discovered that his ceiling fan is broken though – so I am now planning on replacing his cool looking yet unreliable fan with this one (and I just realized said cool broken fan is not even in the photo below 🤷♀️).
You will notice he also does not actually have a bed… and yes that will be coming by the end of summer too. SO MANY THINGS! Sorry that this summer bedroom update is not completely finished yet… I guess I got kinda excited about the pretty bedding!
The bed frame I plan on getting for this room however is this reasonably priced one from Amazon here :).
We replaced his closet doors with these statement doors from Renin Doors last fall and I am just as smitten with them today as I was in September ;).
Be sure to go to the ‘Bedrooms’ page of my home tours for all the links and details.
My Oldest Daughter’s Bedroom
My oldest daughter is 27 years old and lives in Los Angeles but comes home every other month or so for a night or two. Since we have lived in this house since she was 8 years old – her room has seen the most changes ;).
Two years ago we added the full length board and batten to all of the walls in her room and OMG what a difference that made!
Her room went from blah to a cozy, fresh, beachy cottage look that all of us love ;).
It just took me a couple extra years to care about the bedding to match. And last month, I found the perfect blush pink to complete the pretty look I was going for in her bedroom.
Now to convince her to come home more often to sleep in it ;).
I cannot lie to you though – I am not all that sold on that ceiling fan in her room. She has also told me it makes a clicking sound after a couple of hours of running. And the motor is not that quiet before that clicking even starts…
So I guess I will be replacing that fan with the same fan I am getting for my son’s room. Seems it is the summer of fans over here 😂.
And while I am at it – I will probably be getting the same bed frame for her room because she says this headboard only situation rattles every time she moves!! And I know that would just torture me if I were sleeping in a bed that rattles…
I hope you found this post inspiring in planning your light and fresh summer updates in the bedroom ;). In case you are doing the math – yes I did not include my youngest daughter’s bedroom update in this post because her new bedding isn’t coming until SEPTEMBER!! Is anybody as over all these manufacturing and shipping delays for the last couple of years as I am??
Guess it just means I will have to do a separate post for that “fall” update of her bedroom! Maybe then I can include photos of the new fans and beds that will be in the above two kids’ rooms ;).
I hope you take the time to check out all the summer home inspiration from my blogging friends that is linked below especially my friend Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home :).

You have the prettiest bedrooms of any blogger I know Pasha. Every detail is perfect. Your grid wall makes such a fabulous statement and the bedding and rug are beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration.
Kim – you are THE SWEETEST blogger friend I have!! Thank you for always being so kind!!
Love each and every room. I have 3 adult children too and was looking forward to painting and changing things up in their rooms. Well, after about a year, slowly but surely they all came back for different reasons so I never got around to it. Total bummer. Thankfully, it’s only temporary so I have that. LOL. Your colors, decor and textures are all so pretty. I especially love those walls! Enjoyed hopping with you today. Hope you enjoy summer.
Thank you Cindy! Yea – we literally worked around our daughters the summer of 2020 for those accent walls.. let me just say they weren’t all that pleased during the process. But they both love the finished looks of their new rooms! Always a price to pay I guess – right?!
Such beautiful bedrooms, Pasha! I love the millwork on the walls and your summer styling is gorgeous! Welcome to the tour and happy summer!
Thank you Tamara – it was fun learning how to actually do the millwork when that dang pandemic changed everyone’s summer plans 😂

I love that pretty new coverlet on your bed, and the grid wall behind the bed is stunning too. The fan looks perfect, I need to replace a couple this year also. Your son and daughter’s rooms look pretty too and I know what you mean about being tired of things being back-ordered. Thanks so much for joining the tour this season,
Thank you so much Marty! I am just about at the time of year that changing my down comforter for that new coverlet is necessary! Thank you for including me in this lovely group – so much inspiration!!
