Need help with how to decorate your outdoor spaces for Christmas? My front porch and backyard are all decked out for the season and will hopefully provide inspiration for you while you decorate yours.
My backyard gets A LOT of use! We use it for almost every social event we host.
And Christmas is no exception.
Our firepit is gathering central and having a hot chocolate theme makes it even cozier and merry!
And obviously the front porch (my other outdoor space in this blog post) is a home’s first impression for visitors so making it merry this time of year is a priority to me ;).
This post is part of a week long holiday home tour group organized by my friend Kelly from The Tattered Pew so a huge shoutout to her for putting these tours together every season!

Decorate your Outdoor Spaces for Christmas
The Front Porch
Garland and Wreath
As you might be able to tell from the above photo – the garland on my front porch is quite old ;).
Unintentionally giving me the vintage look though – right?
And while the garland is about 7 years, I am shocked that it is still being sold even!
Guess that means the store even thinks it is a classic ;).
I am tossing around the possibility of replacing the garland for this newer look for next year – I will be waiting to see if it goes on sale after the holidays ;).
The large red burlap bow is also crazy old (I even had to spray paint it red again because it got so faded!). And I cannot find ANYTHING like it for you guys!
In fact – nothing compares (I am so sorry about that!) – which means I better baby this guy so that it lasts quite a bit longer ;0!
A similar striped burlap wired ribbon that I added to the wreath on my door can be found here though ;).
Doormat and Rug
In pretty much every single front porch post I have ever written, I tell you how much I love the look of a doormat layered over a 3×5 rug :).
The rug is a new find this year and is probably one of the softest rugs I have ever walked on.
I am NOT KIDDING!
I am so in love with it that I am trying to find a place for a larger size of it even.
Maybe my bedroom???
The doormat is from a couple years ago but here is that company’s newest option (they have the thickest and most well made doormats I have ever found fyi!)…
My Childhood Sled and Some Old Skates
Two years ago, I asked my mom to send me my old sled that was buried in her attic ;).
And now every year I love using it on my front porch – ESPECIALLY here in sunny Southern California where that sled will not be used at all!!
It is a reminder of my childhood with my sisters.
But truth be told – sledding has always given me anxiety – so that sled gives me much more joy NOT being used on snow 😂.
The mini white table was something my dad made for me when I was a little girl and is one of the few items I have that he built. He passed on in 2006 so I am just grateful to have any of the furniture he built for us – even if it is a tiny last minute mini table ;).
Lanterns
The gold lanterns above were a Target find last year and only the shorter one is available online this year ;(.
But I have found a few alternatives for you below at least!
And I have included the links below of what I filled my porch lanterns with.
In the last year I have decided putting candles in my lanterns is just not worth it. The hotter temps Southern California has been having for the last couple of years have pretty much melted every single candle I leave outside for more than an hour 😂.
The white poinsettias can be found in multiple places around my house too- the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms! Thus are a great holiday decor staple ;).
Holiday Stems & Decor
Besides the rug above, there are literally no new purchases this year for my front porch.
Like zero.
Which means, odds are I cannot link any exact items for you to shop ;0.
However, I did my best to find some quite alternatives below for you to choose from ;)!
The distressed red container below is almost twenty years old from Pottery Barn and they have never had it since that year!
Trust me – I have looked…
The Back Patio
Firepit
Putting a gas firepit in the middle of our backyard sectional has completely changed how often and for how long we are able to sit in this space ;).
I used to just have a round coffee table here and last year replaced that item with this firepit and am so happy I invested in this change!
It is a huge investment but one that will pay off for a very very long time!!
Mini Trees
While the majority of my indoor holiday decor is pretty (and lots of neutral colors -ahem whites) – I love being whimsical and festive with my backyard decor!
While this cute mini tree is again probably at least 5 or more years old, there are always so many cute whimsical fun mini trees to use. And yes – I found a few for you and linked them below ;).
Holiday Pillows and Throws
Hi – I am Pasha and I may or may not have a blanket addiction.
While I have never walked around my house to count how many throw blankets are in my house, I seriously would not be surprised if there are around 100 of them 😬.
Now that IS A LOT OF BLANKETS!!
Mugs for Hot Chocolate
It wouldn’t be a cozy up by the firepit event without hot chocolate (and candy canes) – now would it?
And there are some really cute mugs out there right now!!
The “Merry” mug was last year’s version of the Hearth and Hand holiday mugs at Target but this year’s version is also pretty dang cute I must say!!
You will find a wide assortment of fun holiday mugs linked below too (and now I am trying to decide what to add to my collection even!).
Also – don’t forget the peppermint bark and candy canes!!!
My family has taste tested over ten versions of peppermint bark fyi – and can say with 100% authority that this one is THE BEST!
Well that pretty much sums up my ideas on merry ways to decorate your outdoor spaces for Christmas ;).
I hope you found some of my suggestions helpful in making your own outdoor spaces festive! There are so many reasons to celebrate this time of year. And spending quality time with your favorite people is hopefully at the top of your grateful list ;).
Don’t forget to check out the additional inspiration from more of my blogging friends below. Especially one of my blogging besties – Robyn from Robyn’s French Nest. She has such a beautiful home all year long but this time of year it has that extra specialness about it ;).
