Six Ways to Make your Fall Porch Cozy and Inviting

September 3, 2022

Looking for ways to make your fall porch cozy and inviting? A welcoming fall porch is a perfect first impression for your home!

“But I think I like fall most of all.” ~ Unknown

Yup – same.

Well and Christmas.

And summer.

Okay – I guess I just love all the seasons!

But seriously – why not?

It’s a reason to change up your home and of course – a reason to have a gathering with friends and family.

Whether it’s a summer BBQ, a Friendsgiving, a Christmas celebration, they are all worth our adoration – aren’t they?

And of course – we are all well aware that our front porch is literally our home’s first impression!

So why not make a welcoming fall porch?

Even if it’s just for the UPS delivery person! Which I have accidentally opened the door before when they are dropping off the “occasional” package and been told – love the decor from (insert company name on package 😬)…

So there’s that ;)!

As an Amazon Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases. Some of the other links on this site are also affiliate links, which means I might earn a small commission if you love something as much as I do at no additional cost to you… but I only recommend what I actually like myself!

Read the full disclosure here.

In a rush?

A Rocking Chair

I am pretty sure priority number one for making a welcoming front porch is a rocking chair.

Do you agree??

They don’t have to be expensive or fancy.

Heck – they are outside in the elements so I would hope they aren’t expensive!

Wanna know where our front porch rocker is from?

A garbage bin…

When we were in graduate school in New York.

We painted it and had to add a new seat to it but still – it was NOT expensive ;).

And is now 28 years old ;).

So keep your eye out for that cozy and welcoming rocking chair if you don’t already have one.

Cuz it’s out there waiting for you ❤️.

Fall Pillows and Throw Blankets

Fall pillows and throws are such an easy way to add coziness to ANYWHERE in your home!

And most are actually pretty reasonably priced too ;).

The pillows and throws below are all new this season and will most certainly be used for years to come :)!

The pumpkin pillow and throw above were fun fall finds last year.

The exact throw in the above photo from last year is not available anymore and I actually changed it up to currently be this throw (seen in photo above last) but there are also some other really cute ones this year – check out this collection below:

On the other side of my small front porch, I have a pretty white bench that I got last year when I painted the porch Sherwin Williams Pure White.

I put another fall pillow and throw on the bench too. I have found additional fall pillow options below for you to see what you like best ;).

Isn’t the round letterboard from Krumpets so cute?? It’s reversible too! Check it out ;).

Lanterns

Okay you guys… if you are following me on Instagram and watch my stories – you will know that I am obsessed with these lanterns that I found last year.

They are extremely well made and truly quite stunning in person.

I use them for my Christmas front porch as well so they are a worthy investment ;).

And one even made it to my backyard table…

Told you I love them!

A Wreath and Garland

Wreaths and garlands are EVERYWHERE!

I think I may have said that exact same thing in my fall kitchen post 🤷‍♀️.

But it is 100% true.

And I may or may not have about 5 or 6 fall wreaths.

This one was purchased last year when I was just starting my neutrals trend.

The garland was also a 2021 purchase and is a tad tricky to hang because it comes on a stiff twig base.

That took me a while to solve (which I did with fishing wire wrapped around the ends btw).

Please don’t look too closely ;).

But again – it is so pretty – it was worth the efforts!

Faux Flowers and Pumpkins

I do not have a green thumb.

In fact, I have the opposite of a green thumb – what is that? A black thumb?

Unless it is a succulent or on a sprinkler system, I cannot be responsible for any plants.

Thank goodness faux plants and flowers have come a long way!!

And these faux mums cannot die! Yoohoo!

Now I am just trying to decide if I need more in my yard…

The apple picking bucket was an Etsy find btw!

There are sooo many good vintage finds on that website :).

It is also where I get most of my vintage crocks.

Although my peanut butter one actually came from a local San Diego vintage store…

My faux pumpkins are literally from all over the place.

Some are super old from Pottery Barn that I actually spray painted white a couple of years ago to align with my neutrals/white attraction ;).

Some are a bulk purchase from Amazon.

That’s the best part about faux flowers and pumpkins – they are reusable year after year!

Now storing them is a whole different ball game…

Doormat and Rug

We all have doormats on our porches right?

And a fall doormat is a perfect way to make your fall porch cozy and inviting.

Have you also joined the doormat layering look with a 3×5 rug?

I have been doing it for a few years now ever since I saw it on the McGee and Co website and I no longer like the look of a doormat all on its own when I see it… It just doesn’t look right anymore to me 🤷‍♀️.

I change out my front porch rug about 2 or 3 times a year to match the season as well :).

My current rug is perfect for the winter season as well…

I hope you were able to find a few tips and/or inspiration for how to make your fall porch cozy and inviting with this post!

A welcoming front porch is the perfect way to greet your guests (or UPS/Amazon drivers if you are like me and they come every day ;0).

I know sometimes decorating for the seasons can seem overwhelming and exhausting.

But your most important goal for the season is to enjoy it! Whatever you do to your home – be sure it brings YOU joy and happiness.

Because in reality – life is short and joy is all that matters ;).
