How to Make Your Kitchen Festive For The Holidays

December 8, 2020

Have you made your kitchen festive for the holidays yet? There are so many easy ways to add cheer to the most used room in your house (especially this next month)! As I have said in many of my previous holiday posts, I love having little reminders all over the house for the season. The kitchen is one room where I don’t really stay simple and minimal though πŸ€ͺ.

Christmas Towels

One way I like to put Christmas cheer in my kitchen is with festive dish towels and potholders. I change out my dish towels for every season. You should see the cabinet above my microwave where I store all these towels – it is quite full πŸ˜‚.

Orange Slices, Garland, and Bells

New to me this year is the orange slice garland above my window. So many of my Instagram friends talked about this on their accounts this year so I figured I should give it a try! I cannot believe how yummy it makes the kitchen smell when you are baking them!

I put sliced oranges on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and baked them for about six hours at 200 degrees. Yup – it’s that easy!!

Then I used fishing twine to make the slices into a garland. The twine slips right in between the orange pulp and I knotted each slice so that it won’t move on the twine.

Any of the extra slices I just have laying around the kitchen – like on my dish soap cake stand here and on the counter next to the cutting boards. Oh and I guess I should mention the holiday soap scents I always buy too 😎.

Festive Spatulas

I mentioned in my fall kitchen post that I love to cook with spatulas for the season and I wasn’t kidding! Confession? I am kind of an addict for the new spatulas that come out every year. But I was finally able to control myself this year and NOT buy the latest spatula!

Festive Decor On Open Shelves

We have had open shelves in our kitchen now for about three years and I cannot tell you how much I love them!! They are so fun to decorate for the seasons as well as being convenient for easy access to the kitchen items we use often πŸ˜‰.

Salt and Pepper Shakers and Butter Dish

Changing out your salt and pepper shakers and butter dish to leave out on your counter make for a fun addition to your countertop πŸŽ„. I honestly just love using my kitchen this time of year with how many festive items are all around!

These salt and pepper shakers are from last year and of course not available this year but I have included some cute new ones in the shop carousel for you!

A Festive Runner

I bought this fun red runner this year. In fact, I have never had a runner in this space in my kitchen. And about a month ago I posted a photo of my kitchen without this runner on Instagram and a friend of mine commented this space needs a runner Pasha! So ever since then – I haven’t been able to look at this space the same way.

Add Some Decor to the Island

I have changed up my island decor every year for the past five years but I think I have finally found a simple way to add some cheer to the space without feeling overwhelming or cluttered! This mercury glass garland is currently only available in green but it is still a fun decorative item to add to your home!

I bought the silver reindeer a few years ago but it is still a staple decor item so you can find it here!

Kitchen Table

You can have so much fun with your kitchen table decor! In years past, I have kept it super simple with a tray and a candle and some fresh evergreen branches.

This was my kitchen table decor in 2018…

But for the last two years, I have had this bowl with our tree trunk slices on the table. My post about little bits of Christmas everywhere has more details about this idea! I have already bought a bigger bowl to put these slices in next year as this bowl is definitely getting too small to add any more to it!!

Hot Chocolate Table

I moved this little desk downstairs a few months ago after I painted it. I knew then that it was going to be such a fun little spot for a hot chocolate station! I just bought the SMEG tea kettle for myself for Christmas… yup I do that πŸ€ͺ.

I hope this post was helpful to you for ideas on how to make your kitchen festive for the holidays! I just love how pretty this time of year is in our homes – the sparkle, the cheer, and the simple joys all around πŸŽ„.
